About Us

The Water Environment and Climate Action Network (WECAN) Liberia is an independent, non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to addressing the most pressing and interconnected challenges related to water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), environmental sustainability, and climate resilience in Liberia. WECAN operates with a dual focus, working at both the grassroots and policy levels to improve access to safe water, promote environmental health, and strengthen climate adaptation, especially in vulnerable rural communities, schools, and public institutions. Founded in response to persistent gaps in environmental management, weak enforcement of environmental laws, poor water governance, and limited public awareness, WECAN is a locally rooted and community-responsive organization. We exist to confront Liberia’s exposure to waterborne diseases, poor sanitation, and climate-induced risks by offering practical, participatory, and sustainable solutions.

Our Approach

To empower communities, advocate for sustainable policies, and implement innovative solutions to manage water resources, protect the environment, and combat climate change.
